Becoming a Scouter

Want to get involved?

We’re always looking for new Scouters to help us deliver our programme. If you’d like to help there are a few steps you need to complete. 

  1. Express an interest. Speak to one of our Scouters, or contact the Group Leader at [email protected] 
  2. Meet the Group Leader and/or our Group Trainer Claire Walsh who will discuss the application process and the requirements of the role
  3. Complete the Scouting Ireland Adult Membership Application form & the Garda vetting clearance form, and submit to Group Leader.
  4. Get a copy of the “Welcoming Adults to Scouting” induction handbook, or print it off 
  5. Complete the Story of Scouting e-learning course: Story of Scouting e-Learning course. This should take 20-30 mins
  6. Attend the Story of Scouting course. This should take 2-3 hours some evening and will be held in Limerick (Make sure you bring your printout certificate from the e-Learning module)
  7. Meet with Group Leader and/or Group Trainer again to discuss the training to date and the next steps. During this process, you may attend some meetings on a supervised basis.
  8. Once the Vetting process has been completed and returned successfully, we will be book you onto the “Being a Scouter” course. This is a two day residential course
  9. Once you have completed this weekend course, you are cleared to help with meetings and events. Shortly after this, you’ll be asked to make your Scout Promise and be invested into the Group and the World Scout Movement
